Did anyone else hear Bob Roll's comments on the treatment of David Zabriskie after he crashed? I have to say that I although I still think Riis has one of the best run teams in the peloton, I have to agree with what Bob said about they're lack of respect and poor choice of tactics by leaving the Yellow jersey behind in the time trial to ride home on his own.
My heart sank as Dave had to re-mount after a bike change, and ride to the finish line (head down) alone. Not even one teammate stayed behind to escort Zabriskie home. CSC had all nine riders and could have easily given up one (or two) teammates ride back with David.
David's decision to abandon the tour on yesterdays stage, was difficult to watch, and it was clear that he was not only physically, but mentally defeated. I hope in time he will come to realize the magnitude of his accomplishments at his first tour, as well as for the entire season and it will help to lessen the pain.
Way to go DZ!

Re: Bob Roll on CSC's treatment of DZ
Tue, July 12, 2005 - 5:49 AMI saw that. I agree it would have been nice for someone to what, or even give up their bike. I thought Franke Andreu's interview with David was very good. I like his joke about doing the Vuelta. What a let down to be in the yellow jersey and then to be dropped from the climbs. -

Wed, July 13, 2005 - 10:34 AMRight on. I agree with Phil Liggett's comments about troops not leaving their wounded behind. This is obviously not a war and let's not get carried away, but this (particularly the TTT) is indeed a team sport.
The team should be thinking about other stages, next year and recruiting for their team in the future. What hot shot young cyclist is gonna choose CSC when they see how they can expect to get treated?
Hopefully Dave will get through it okay. He clearly has the talent, now he just needs the support
